Motorists’ Bill of Rights

Choosing a Collision Center
As the owner of a motor vehicle damaged in an accident, you have the right to choose the
shop where you wish to have your vehicle repaired. This is the law!

Do I Need More Than One Estimate
No. Do not waste your time or that of several shops getting estimates. Select a repair facility that you feel comfortable with, then notify your agent or insurance company, or ask the shop to make the call on your behalf. Your insurance adjuster may have to inspect the damage.
This can be done at an insurance drive-thru claim center or at the shop you have chosen.

Notify Your Insurance Company
Before authorizing any repairs, notify your insurance company or agent and tell them where the damaged vehicle can be inspected. Most, if not all, policies require notification.

Is the Work Guaranteed?
Most collision repair centers guarantee their collision work to some degree, which may not include the paint job. Ask to see a copy of the shop’s guarantee before repairs are started and have any information you do not understand clarified.

Qualified Collision Repair Centers
Verify your shop of choice is registered with the state of Connecticut. Also, look for certificates
of technician training. Membership in professional association and the Better Business Bureau indicates the shop is current with the latest repair procedures.

Know your Shop
Make sure the shop you choose:

  1. Maintains a reliable and professional reputation. Ask acquaintances for recommendations.
  2. Appears properly equipped and organized to handle today’s technical repair needs.
  3. Maintains specialized equipment and systems for peak performance.
  4. Have technicians that are thoroughly trained and certified.
  5. Shop Cleanliness. First impressions are important and say much about technician owner attitudes and professionalism. If you are comfortable with the shop and its people,
chances are you will be satisfied with their repair work.
Inspect the Repairs
Before driving away:
  • Check the appearance of the repaired area—both close-up and from a distance.
  • Examine the paint for the color match, texture and overspray.
  • Take a test drive to check for mechanical repairs if any were required.
  • Check that the vehicle is clean.
  • If not satisfied with the work, mention your concerns immediately.
  • In the worst cases, have the repair work inspected by an independent repair facility.

What to do in case of an accident

Call Danbury Auto Body immediately, 203-797-1903

If your car is not driveable we will make arrangements to have it towed to the shop.

We will help you decide whether or not to file a claim and what type of claim to file.  It is important to keep your insurance record clean and one way to do that is to decide whether or not you should file a claim.  It doesn’t matter if the accident is your fault or not.  You should first ask yourself if you can pay for the damage out of your own pocket without financial hardship.  If you can, do not file the claim.  If you or any of your passengers are injured as a result of the accident, we recommend that you contact an attorney first.

If you decide to file an insurance claim file the claim as soon as possible with your insurance company.  Even if the accident is not your fault your insurance company will handle the claim process as your advocate.

Prepare for a possible call from the other insurance company.  If there is a dispute between the parties involved in the accidents you may get a call from the other driver’s insurance company asking for your version of what happened at the scene of the accident.  If this happens, make sure you document everything you say and the name of the customer service agent you spoke with.  If you have hired an attorney consult your attorney before making any comments to the other driver’s insurance company.

If you have body damage to your vehicle you may get it fixed at the repair facility of your choice once your claim has been approved.

If you are eligible for car rental reimbursement while your vehicle is in the repair shop, ask for our assistance in arranging for your rental.  Car rental costs may be handled financially between the rental company and the insurance company.

Please call us so that we can make towing arrangements for you.  We will have your vehicle moved to Danbury Auto Body.   We will assist you with making arrangements for a rental car and determining whether or not to file a claim with your insurance company.

Towing

After an accident if your vehicle is not driveable please call us at
203-797-1903.
We offer 24 hour towing services to all of our customers.

Comprehensive Coverage: comprehensive insurance covers damage to your vehicle if it is stolen, or damaged by flood, fire or animals.  It pays to fix your vehicle less your deductible.

Collision Coverage: collision covers damage to your vehicle when your vehicle hits or is hit by another vehicle, or other object.  It pays to fix your vehicle less your deductible.

Uninsured Motorist Property Damage: covers your vehicle when property damage is sustained by an insured and the negligent operator does not possess insurance.  If you do not have Collision coverage, Uninsured Motorist Property Damage coverage pays up to a certain amount for repairs to the insured vehicle.  If you have Collision coverage, Uninsured Motorist Property Damage coverage only pays your collision deductible (in some states).

Rental Car Reimbursement: covers renting a car if you’re your vehicle is no driveable or while your vehicle is being repaired because of a covered accident.

Before you decide to repair your vehicle you want to know how much it will cost you or your insurance company.  At Danbury Auto Body we welcome the opportunity to provide you with a free written estimate so that you can make the best-informed decision possible.  Schedule an appointment or just come.  We will inspect the damage and provide you with an estimate while you wait.

When to Schedule Your Repairs

You can schedule your repair date at the same time you come in for an estimate or if you already have an insurance estimate give us a call to schedule your repair date over the phone.  We honor all insurance estimates.

Driveable Vehicles

If your vehicle is safe to drive following an accident it is best to schedule a repair date with
Danbury Auto Body
so that we can take care of the administrative portion of the claim process in advance.

Payments

We accept cash, bank checks, all insurance checks, MasterCard and Visa.

Insurance Payments

Insurance companies handle payments for collision repairs differently.  Many insurance companies issue payment to the repair facility after all the repairs are completed and you are back in your car.  Other insurance companies will issue payments before any repair work has begun.  If an insurance company issues you a check directly we recommend that you do not cash it.  We will accept these checks as payment on your vehicle when you come to pick it up.  We will be more than happy to assist you through this part of your claim process.

If you have a lien holder (if the car is financed) on the insurance check we will take the check to bank to have the check signed after we have repaired your vehicle and you are happy with the repairs.

At Danbury Auto Body we understand that your vehicle often represents the only means of getting to work, school or keeping your family on the go.  While we are repairing your car to its pre-accident condition we will make all the necessary arrangements for you to have the use of a rental car.

Danbury Auto Body customizes all makes of classic cars, muscle cars, custom trucks, hot rods and motorcycles.  From fabricating to custom painting, we have done it all.
We will work with you to design the vehicle of your dreams.

One of Rick Bennett, Sr.’s, owner of Danbury Auto Body, LLC, proudest accomplishments of his racing career was being awarded the
NASCAR Golden Wrench Award by Bill France, Jr., owner of
NASCAR.

Rick began his outstanding racing career at the age of five when he raced go-karts with his father.    Rick won the Connecticut Championship and New York Championship in go-kart racing.  He then moved on to race a late model at Waterford Speed Bowl in Connecticut before enlisting in the army at age 17.  When Rick returned from his tour in Vietnam he went to work for many of the racecar drivers at Danbury Racearena, including Carmine Benincasa, Jimmy Smith, Rit Patchen, Don Popowski and Don LaJoie.  After the Danbury Racearena closed in 1981, Rick decided to build his own race car to run at Stafford Motor Speedway.

With the help of Rick’s good friends Cheech Garde, Bob Cuneo and Bobby V. the “83” Coupe was brought to life.  Cheech worked at Chassis Dynamics in Waterbury, CT, which was owned by Bob Cuneo (who now designs and builds the bobsleds used by the US bobsled team) and Bobby V.  Both Bob and Bobby taught Rick a lot about a racecar’s frame and the geometry that is involved in designing a frame, what is involved in making a racecar go around a speedway consistently, how to rebuild a racecar after a bad crash, understanding every aspect of a racecar.

Week after week Rick’s racecar would win races at Stafford Motor Speedway.  The “83” Coupe won 30 feature races with a number of different drivers including Cheech Garde, Randy LaJoie, Bo Gunning and Todd Bodine.
While Rick was racing his “83” Coupe at Stafford Motor Speedway his oldest son Ricky Jr. followed in his father’s footsteps by racing go-karts and winning over 1500 races in total, including a WKA National title.  Ricky Jr. also drove his father’s “83” Coupe at Stafford Motor Speedway and won rookie of the year in 1991.  Rick’s racecar was the last coupe body car to run at Stafford Motor Speedway.

In 1991, Rick went to work on the
NASCAR big circuit, working on Winston Cup Cars, known today as the Sprint Cup Cars.
Rick has a lot of knowledge about cars.  In the Danbury area, there is probably no other individual who has as much experience with cars as Rick has gained from his career in racing.

OUR COMMENTS.............................

We had a tree limb fall on the hood of our silver 2008 Volvo XC90 during the October snow storm. The guys at Danbury Auto Body replaced the hood along with fixing several small dents caused by the limb and repainted all of the damaged areas. I can tell you it looks as good as new. I have had cars repaired in the past and there is no comparison. Rick and his guys are the best, hands down!!!
Thanks for a GREAT job...

When my new car was hit by an unlicensed driver needless to say I was upset. My Honda dealer recommended Danbury Auto Body to do the repair. Twice Honda shipped a new door panel and twice it came in damaged only to have the 3rd panel backordered for weeks! Rick was confident he and his crew could fix the original door like new and they did. The paint job is flawless! I can't tell where the damage was at all. They were so nice to me and kept me up to date the whole time.

They cleaned my car inside and out before returning it to me. That was a bonus!

I recommend them in a heartbeat!

If you want the best, go to the best. Rick's goal is to fix your car the right way, which is his way. He goes the extra mile because he is a professional, and he wants you to be happy with the work they do for you. He will fight with the insurance companies on your behalf when they try to cut costs and use aftermarket parts.
I highly recommend Danbury Auto Body on White Street to anyone who wants the best in customer service, professionalism, attitude, price∑ someone who is on YOUR side, and who you can trust. You will always be treated courteously, and your car will be fixed (and cleaned) as it should be - as good as new!
Thank you Rick, Jimmy, and Billy!

When my practically brand-new car was plowed into by someone who decided to run a redlight, my third call (#1 police, #2 insurance company) was to Rick.
The damage to the car was totally more extensive than met the eye and beyond the obvious "unseen" like having the frame bent. Yes, in addition (In this case, my Subaru really DID save my life, but luckily did not have to end up in the junkyard.)
Rick worked with the insurance company (not too tough) and the adjuster (another story) to get the new parts and take the time to do the job right.
When I got my car back it looked better than the day BEFORE the accident (they clean more meticulously than even my Italian mother) and performed perfectly - to the astonishment of my friends.
Anyway, you don't necessarily have to buy a Subaru, but if your car has a traumatic experience, go to Rick so you don't have any more trauma yourself.

We had our 2003 Suburban brought to Danbury Auto Body after it was involved in a major accident. Ricky and his team took the time to make sure everything was carefully checked and repaired or replaced. The truck was returned to us looking as good as it did when we first bought it. They even took the time to have the truck washed and the inside cleaned for us. If your car needs body work, I highly recommend taking it to Ricky at Danbury Auto Body. You won't be sorry.

Rick at Danbury Auto Body is WITHOUT A DOUBT someone you can trust. He always treats me courteously and goes well beyond the extra mile to make me feel like he has no other customer but me, and that all he wants to do is make me happy. That is quite a trick in this day and age, with the lousy insurance companies trying to nickel and dime you. Rick fights hard to get your car repaired the way HE feels it should be repaired. His great attititude and customer service and very fair prices are all I could ask for. I always recommend him to friends. If he sold stock in his company I would buy it!!
